Gammans offers three pieces of hire equipment: a 1-man post hole borer, a 60kg plate compactor, and a 200L concrete mixer. We also have free courtesy trailers — single and double axle — available for up to 2 hours for customers purchasing landscape materials from the yard. All equipment is available 7 days a week. Call ahead to check availability before you come in, especially on weekends when demand is highest.

A plate compactor is used to compact loose aggregate, crusher dust, or fill into a firm, stable surface. It’s essential for driveway preparation, path construction, and any project where you’re laying aggregate before paving, concreting, or applying a finish layer. Without compaction, aggregate will shift, sink, and create uneven surfaces over time. Gammans’ 60kg plate compactor is the right size for most residential driveway and path projects. Hire it alongside your GAP aggregate for a complete, one-stop solution.

A 1-man post hole borer can typically drill 20–40 holes per day depending on soil conditions. In soft or sandy soils, you’ll move faster; in clay-heavy or rocky ground it’ll take longer. For standard fence lines of 10–20 posts, most people complete the job in a morning. Before you start, check for underground services (call 0800 FOR SURE / 0800 367 7873 in NZ before any digging), and mark your post positions clearly. Having a second person to help stabilise the borer on uneven ground is recommended.

Yes – Gammans offers free single and double axle courtesy trailers to customers who purchase landscape materials from the yard. There’s no hire fee; the trailers are available for up to 2 hours. The only conditions are that you return the trailer clean and on time, and that it’s used exclusively for Gammans products. Single axle trailers hold up to 3m³ of mulch, 2m³ of garden mix or compost, or up to 1m³ of aggregate. Tandem trailer will hold 4m³ to 5m³ of bark or mulch. Call ahead to check trailer availability, particularly on busy weekend mornings.

The post hole borer, plate compactor, and concrete mixer are all available for hire independently, you don’t need to purchase materials to hire them.
